About the Organization
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), headed by the Prime Minister of India, is the apex body for Disaster Management in India. Setting up of NDMA and the creation of an enabling environment for institutional mechanisms at the State and District levels is mandated by the Disaster Management Act, 2005. NDMA is mandated to lay down the policies, plans and guidelines for Disaster Management. India envisions the development of an ethos of Prevention, Mitigation, Preparedness and Response.
The Indian government strives to promote a national resolve to mitigate the damage and destruction caused by natural and man-made disasters, through sustained and collective efforts of all Government agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations and People’s participation. This is planned to be accomplished by adopting a Technology-Driven, Pro-Active, Multi-Hazard and Multi-Sectoral strategy for building a Safer, Disaster Resilient and Dynamic India.
Job Description
The Business Recovery Professional (Consultants, Senior Consultants, and Lead Consultants) will be engaged to provide technical expertise at varying levels of responsibility and experience. These experts will support MSMEs and other businesses in disaster recovery efforts, focusing on rebuilding business operations, promoting sustainable practices, and ensuring financial stability. The roles are structured to accommodate different levels of experience and responsibility:
- Consultants will assist in business recovery efforts, supporting implementation and capacitybuilding activities under supervision.
- Senior Consultants will lead business recovery projects, offering strategic guidance and policy advice, and managing complex tasks.
- Lead Consultants will provide high-level leadership and oversight in business recovery efforts, ensuring strategic alignment with national recovery plans and guiding other consultants.
Job Responsibilities
The Business Recovery Professional will work across different levels and will be expected to contribute to the following tasks and responsibilities, with variations in scope and leadership based on the level:
- Business Strategy Development: Consultants will assist in the development of business recovery strategies, focusing on financial management, risk assessment, and sustainability. Senior Consultants will lead the design of recovery strategies, ensuring they meet the needs of MSMEs and integrate financial management, risk mitigation, and business continuity planning. Lead Consultants will ensure the alignment of recovery strategies with national disaster recovery frameworks and guide teams to implement scalable solutions.
- MSME Support: Consultants will help MSMEs access recovery resources, provide guidance on financial planning, and assist in business operations restoration. Senior Consultants will manage MSME recovery programs, ensuring that businesses receive the necessary support, guidance, and resources to recover quickly. Lead Consultants will oversee large-scale MSME recovery projects and facilitate the development of frameworks for financial stability and long-term business resilience.
- Financial Management and Economic Recovery: Consultants will assist businesses with financial planning, supporting budgeting, resource allocation, and access to credit or insurance. Senior Consultants will lead the financial recovery efforts, advising businesses on cash flow management, cost-cutting measures, and maximizing available resources. Lead Consultants will ensure the development of comprehensive financial management strategies that integrate disaster recovery into long-term business planning.
- Marketing and Branding Strategies: Consultants will assist in the development of marketing strategies to help businesses rebuild their brand presence in the market. Senior Consultants will design comprehensive marketing and promotional strategies that focus on revitalizing businesses, ensuring customer retention, and driving new business growth. Lead Consultants will oversee the formulation of national-level marketing strategies, aligning them with broader economic recovery plans.
- Capacity Building and Training Programs: Consultants will assist in designing and implementing training programs for MSMEs to build their capacity in financial management, crisis management, and business continuity planning. Senior Consultants will lead the delivery of capacity-building programs, providing mentorship and strategic guidance to businesses on how to strengthen their operations and adapt to changing market conditions. Lead Consultants will develop advanced training modules and ensure the integration of disaster resilience into MSMEs’ long-term business practices.
- Research and Policy Development: Consultants will collect data on business vulnerabilities, economic recovery challenges, and post-disaster impacts on MSMEs. Senior Consultants will lead research initiatives, analyze trends, and propose policy recommendations to aid business recovery. Lead Consultants will provide strategic analysis and contribute to policy development, ensuring that recovery plans align with national and international best practices for sustainable business recovery.
- Strategic Oversight and Leadership: Consultants will provide technical support and ensure the smooth execution of recovery projects. Senior Consultants will manage program implementation, offer leadership to junior consultants, and ensure programs are delivered on time and within budget. Lead Consultants will provide high-level oversight, ensuring alignment of business recovery projects with broader national recovery strategies and managing stakeholder relationships.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination: Consultants will coordinate with local businesses, government agencies, and NGOs to facilitate the recovery process. Senior Consultants will manage stakeholder relationships, ensuring the integration of local, regional, and national recovery frameworks. Lead Consultants will play a strategic role in engaging with international stakeholders and coordinating large-scale recovery efforts at the national and global levels.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
Education:
- Master’s in Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
- Certifications: Professional certification in Entrepreneurship, Business Development, or related field.
Experiences:
- Consultants: 3-7 years of experience in business recovery, financial management, and MSME development.
- Senior Consultants: 8-12 years of experience in business strategy development, MSME support, and financial recovery planning.
- Lead Consultants: 12+ years of experience in business recovery leadership, project management, and strategic financial planning.
