Reports to: Clinical Director/Senior Clinicians at sites

Job Summary

  • To work as a part of a multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive community-based care to  patients and their families
  • To assist in assessments employing a range of methods.
  • To assist in identifying a wide variety of mental illnesses.
  • To develop an effective, person-centred care plan for each client including evidence-based interventions
  • To consistently conduct follow-ups.
  • To measure the success of interventions and make changes where necessary. 
  • To work under the direct supervision of a Psychiatrist and Senior Clinician. 
  • Support patients with mental illness or developmental disabilities by providing basic care and therapy, using the Recovery framework. 
  • To supervise mental health workers and community volunteers.
  • To participate in supervision for personal and professional development
  • To commit to self-directed learning and keep clinical skills and knowledge up to date.

MAIN DUTIES

1. CLINICAL

  • To perform initial assessments and bio-psycho-social evaluations of a patient to make a  diagnosis.
  • To prepare a treatment plan under the supervision of Psychiatrist and Senior Clinician.
  • To make a medication management plan under the supervision of a psychiatrist.
  • Make a clear follow up plan for each client.
  • Provide psychosocial interventions under the supervision of the senior clinician. 
  • Facilitate clinical meetings with the team including MHW and clinic volunteers at the end of  each out-patient clinic day.
  • Assist senior clinician in supporting MHWs to develop care plans and provide interventions to best meet patient needs.
  • Work in a patient centred holistic way using strength-based approaches to support patient’s  recovery
  • Utilise the agreed tools to measure patient outcomes in relation to health and wellbeing and  psychological and social needs.
  • Report concerns about patients and/or families and any adverse events and incidents to the  senior clinician.
  • Conduct home based treatment as required.
  • Educate and coordinate training programs for community volunteers in mental illness and  recovery-based approach.
  • Any other duties as discussed with the supervisor.

2. ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Ensure a safe environment for all service users.
  • Update all the patient related data electronically in MHAT’s designated software system.
  • Maintain all appropriate patient related records according to the MHAT standards
  • Submit monthly work, leave and absence reports to MHAT administrative section in time.
  • Familiarise oneself with and adhere to all of MHAT’s policies, procedures, protocols and  guidelines
  • Participate in and contribute to Clinic Review and Staff meetings

3. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Understand and work within agreed professional boundaries.
  • Maintain quality standards in every area of one’s work
  • Make use of regular supervision and support
  • Take responsibility for updating personal knowledge and skills in order to meet the demands  of the post
  • Actively participate in all mandatory training sessions
  • Follow MHAT’s code of conduct
  • Use self care strategies to maintain and improve one’s own well being

4. SUPERVISION AND MENTORING

  • Participate actively in mandatory personal/professional supervision from the assigned  supervisor. 
  • Attend the group supervision programs.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that junior staff assigned to your team is provided good  quality supervision regularly.

5. EDUCATION/TEACHING

  • Provide education, training and supervision to MHW and Community Mental Health  Volunteers 
  • Participate in and utilise MHAT’s educational and training activities as and when available
  • Participate as a trainer in all external courses that MHAT offers (Introductory, Internship)

6. RESEARCH

  • Assist in MHAT’s ongoing projects and research activities
  • Identify research needs and suggest research projects which are relevant to community  based mental health
  • Design and conduct research projects within one’s capabilities.

7. SERVICE DEVELOPMENT

  • To take an active and productive role in assisting with service development and service  improvement initiatives.

8. PERFORMANCE EVALUATION AND APPRAISAL

  • To prepare for and actively participate in post holder’s Annual Performance Appraisal  process.
