About the Organization

The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is an autonomous natural resource service institution established in 1982 under the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate change, Government of India.[1] WII carries out wildlife research in areas of study like Biodiversity, Endangered Species, Wildlife Policy, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Forensics, Spatial Modeling, Ecodevelopment, Ecotoxicology, Habitat Ecology and Climate Change. WII has a research facility which includes Forensics, Remote Sensing and GIS, Laboratory, Herbarium, and an Electronic Library. The founder director was V. B. Saharia while the first director was Hemendra Singh Panwar who remained the director from 1985 to 1994. Trained personnel from WII have contributed in studying and protecting wildlife in India. The national tiger census or the All India Tiger Estimation, is done by WII along with NTCA and state forest departments.

Job Description

The candidate will primarily have a managerial role and oversee all activities of the cell. Additionally, will be responsible for developing proposals, conducting site inspections, review of the reports and other tasks assigned relevant to the cell by Nodal officer. The selected candidate has to successfully manage competing demands and deadlines.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

Essential Qualification(s)

  • M.Sc. in Wildlife Sciences, Life Sciences, Biological Sciences from any recognized university with minimum 10 years of experience in research, conservation and impact assessments and policy related aspects on wildlife conservation.

 Desirable Qualification(s)

  • Ph.D., any additional qualifications, research experience, published papers, technical reports in the relevant field would be preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in a) leading EIA related projects, b) should have conducted ecological impact assessments, c) drafted wildlife conservation/mitigation plans, d) implemented project activities, coordinating with project team members, and ensure timely completion of project deliverables
  • . 3. Experience of liaisoning with State Forest Department(s) and other stakeholders in various assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as member of interdisciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
