TNCC is a science-led and collaborative organization that works with a wide range of government and non-government partners to address key sustainability challenges facing India through on-the-ground charitable projects as well as research studies. What We Can Achieve Together:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Field Manager is responsible for planning and advancing TNCC’s projects in Meghalaya and Nagaland and is expected to combine technical expertise with project management excellence and stakeholder coordination for these projects. The focus of these projects is on supporting community- based conservation, restoration and natural resource management via technical inputs and sustainable finance mechanisms, in alignment with broader governmental priorities. Consequently, the range of activities being supported is wide and encompassesimproved documentation, ground-level planning, conservation aligned livelihoods, and mechanisms to convert planning into implementation. These may be undertaken by communities on a variety of categories within a given landscape, including community conserved areas, community forests, freshwaters, and cultivation. The Field Manager will ensure effective implementation of activities and completion of outputs (both directly and in collaboration with implementation partners) per the project’s logical framework. The Field Manager will also build and maintain relationships with all relevant stakeholders in the project landscapes and at the state level and ensure appropriate coordination and alignment with key governmental functionaries. The incumbent will work as part of a multi disciplinary team that works on various aspects of landscape conservation and contribute towards planning and development of the overall Programme.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

The incumbent will undertake the following functions, in collaboration with the project manager and within the overall project mandate:

  • Lead the technical development and detailing (planning, budgeting, and implementation) of project activities, within the overall scope of the project log frame (including adaptive management as required).
  • Anchor project management across both states, including budget management; monitoring and delivery of outputs; coordinating with implementing partners and consultants; and reporting to internal and external audiences.
  • Build and maintain stakeholder relationships, including coordination with governmental agencies, collaboration with implementing partners and working with local communities.
  • Contribute to Programme development in the form of new ideas and proposal development, thereby furthering organizational conservation goals for 2030.

What You’ll Bring:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in ecology, conservation, forestry with at least 5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
  • Strong field knowledge and field experience in areas related to conservation, restoration, and natural resource management in the Northeast region.
  • Experience in the management of projects.
  • Ability to develop and build relationships with governmental agencies, partner organizations and local communities.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English, and at least one language relevant to Meghalaya or Nagaland.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A learning mindset, with willingness and flexibility to take up challenges and grow.
  • A clear understanding of policies, laws and processes relevant to conservation in India and the Northeast in particular.
  • Experience of working with governance systems across multiple scales within states.
  • Understanding of project planning and management frameworks such as logical frameworks.
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems, MS Excel (including the ability to conduct simple data analysis);
  • Competence in both technical and non-technical writing skills.
  • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
