Digital India Corporation is a not-for-profit Company set up by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Govt. of India, under Section 8 of Companies Act 2013. Earlier the company was known as ‘Media Lab Asia’. It has been renamed as ‘Digital India Corporation’ w.e.f. Sep 8, 2017. The Company now leads & guides in realizing the vision, objectives and goals of the Digital India program. It provides strategic support to Ministries / Departments of Centre / States to carry forward the mission of Digital India by way of capacity building for e-governance projects, promoting best practices, encouraging Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), nurturing innovations and technologies in various domains. To ensure autonomy and viability of the organization in the long run, DIC, will also collaborate and mobilise partnerships with the industry, to evolve revenue based models for service delivery.

Job Description

The objective of this role is to lead the design, development, and implementation of AI and data science initiatives under the India AI Datasets Platform Pillar. This involves overseeing the application of data science methodologies to address national challenges, collaborating with Central Ministries and State Departments to identify key problem statements. A core responsibility is driving the creation and maintenance of large-scale datasets, ensuring high data quality and governance standards. The role also includes managing a team of data scientists and analysts, fostering collaboration, and developing datadriven models such as machine learning algorithms and predictive analytics to support government decision-making. Additionally, this role ensures the alignment of data science projects with IndiaAI's strategic goals, leads the evaluation of AI/ML models for accuracy and scalability, and liaises with key stakeholders to promote the integration of AI in policymaking. Regular reporting on data insights and analysis to senior leadership is essential to guide policy and operational decisions.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of AI and data science initiatives under the India AI Datasets Platform Pillar.
• Oversee the application of data science methodologies to address critical national challenges, collaborating with Central Ministries and State Departments to identify problem statements.
• Drive the creation and maintenance of large-scale datasets, ensuring that data quality and governance protocols are in place.
• Manage a team of data scientists and analysts, fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment.
• Develop and implement data-driven models, including machine learning algorithms, predictive analytics, and statistical models, to support government decision-making.
• Ensure that data science projects are aligned with India AI’s broader goals and strategic vision.
• Lead the evaluation of AI/ML models, focusing on model accuracy, performance, and scalability.
• Liaise with key stakeholders, including government officials and private-sector partners, to promote the use of AI in policymaking and program delivery.
• Oversee the successful execution of multiple data science projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Present data insights and analysis to India AI leadership and government stakeholders to drive policy and operational decisions.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field is required.
• Master's Degree in Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Statistics, Information Technology or Applied Mathematics is strongly preferred.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• 15+ years of experience, with at least 7+ years in data science, AI, machine learning, or related fields.
• Certified Data Scientist, Advanced AI/ML Certifications (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), or Cloud Computing Certifications (AWS, Google Cloud AI) are highly desirable.
• Experience working with government organizations or large-scale public sector projects.
• Proven leadership experience with 5+ years of experience in managing and mentoring data science teams.
• Strong expertise in machine learning, data mining, big data analytics, and statistical modeling.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL, along with hands-on experience with AI frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
• Experience working with large datasets, data pipelines, and cloud computing platforms.
• Excellent project management skills with a track record of successfully delivering data-driven solutions.
• Strong ability to communicate data insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Familiarity with global and domestic developments in AI and data science policy
