About the Organization
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), headed by the Prime Minister of India, is the apex body for Disaster Management in India. Setting up of NDMA and the creation of an enabling environment for institutional mechanisms at the State and District levels is mandated by the Disaster Management Act, 2005. NDMA is mandated to lay down the policies, plans and guidelines for Disaster Management. India envisions the development of an ethos of Prevention, Mitigation, Preparedness and Response.
The Indian government strives to promote a national resolve to mitigate the damage and destruction caused by natural and man-made disasters, through sustained and collective efforts of all Government agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations and People’s participation. This is planned to be accomplished by adopting a Technology-Driven, Pro-Active, Multi-Hazard and Multi-Sectoral strategy for building a Safer, Disaster Resilient and Dynamic India.
Job Description
The Livestock Production Professional will assist NDMA in ensuring that livestock management and welfare are integrated into disaster risk management planning and recovery processes. The expert will be responsible for developing and implementing systems for effective livestock health management, animal welfare, and sustainable livestock practices in post-disaster scenarios. They will collaborate with various stakeholders to build resilient livestock production systems and enhance animal welfare in disaster-prone regions.
Job Responsibilities
- Consultants: Provide technical assistance in the design and implementation of livestock health management, sustainable livestock practices, and veterinary services in disaster contexts.
- Senior Consultants: Oversee livestock management programs, supervise teams, and ensure effective implementation of disaster-related livestock policies.
- Lead Consultants: Lead large-scale disaster management projects related to livestock, guide policy development, and ensure that animal welfare is prioritized in national disaster recovery efforts.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
Education:
- Master’s in Veterinary Science, Animal Husbandry, or related field.
- Certifications: Professional certification in Animal Science, Livestock Management, or related field.
Experiences:
- Consultants: 3-7 years of experience in livestock management, animal husbandry, veterinary services, or related fields.
- Senior Consultants: 8-12 years of experience in livestock management, animal health, and disaster recovery.
- Lead Consultants: 12+ years of experience in managing large-scale livestock recovery projects, with a focus on disaster management and sustainability.
