About Piramal School of Leadership (PSL): PSL, is a change management organization, that aims to transform Leadership at State, District and village level, supporting government officials across the value chain to improve processes, integrate technology and develop mindsets, leadership skills, and knowledge.

Project Overview: The Project Manager will be responsible for managing a Project Management Unit (PMU) at Maharashtra Institute for Transformation (MITRA). MITRA is a pioneering think tank of the Government of Maharashtra akin to the esteemed NITI Aayog. MITRA has been established with an aim to accelerate Maharashtra’s progress towards a trillion-dollar economy by 2027 and 3.5 trillion-dollar economy by 2047. MITRA as an institution shall be instrumental in defining policies, conceptualizing initiatives and implementing & monitoring key projects, across multiple sectors in the State of Maharashtra. The PMU is responsible for overseeing a cohort of Young Professionals (YPs) employed by MITRA, who will work with various departments and organizations within the Government of Maharashtra. The Project Manager will ensure the effective induction, training, and technical support of these Young Professionals and will lead the project management efforts to achieve the goals set by MITRA for the YPs.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning and Management:

  • Develop and implement project plans, schedules, and operating processes for the PMU.
  • Monitor project progress and make adjustments as necessary to ensure successful completion.
  • Coordinate with various state government departments and organizations of Maharashtra to align project activities with their goals.

Team Management:

  • Lead the induction, and onboarding of YPs.
  • Co-design and implement training programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of the YPs.
  • Provide ongoing technical support and mentorship to the cohort.

Stakeholder Coordination:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between MITRA and PSL.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure project alignment and successful implementation.
  • Prepare and present regular progress reports to MITRA & PSL leadership and other stakeholders.

Resource Management & Quality Assurance:

  • Allocate resources effectively to ensure project goals are met.
  • Manage project budgets and ensure financial accountability.
  • Establish and maintain project management standards and best practices.
  • Conduct regular project reviews and implement corrective actions to address any deficiencies.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree is compulsory; relevant Master’s degree (preferably in economics, public policy, developmental studies or management)

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of overall work experience in Public Policy, Development, Education or Corporate Sector.
  • Including minimum of 1 year of experience in working in building relation and liaison with government stakeholder and other partners.
  • Including minimum 1 year or more experience in managing people or cross-functional teams.
  • Facilitation, Change management, coaching experience will be considered favourably.

Desired Skills:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills (Proficiency in English is a must).
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PPT etc) and experience with project management software and tools (e.g., MS Project, Asana, Trello).
  • Good understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).
  • Experience working in dynamic environments with substantive dose of ambiguity.
  • Ability to convert abstract ideas and concepts into concrete framework and content as per stakeholder’s training and development needs. 
  • Understanding of quantitative and qualitative analysis (basic level)
  • Ability of manage team dynamics & conflicts, capacity to engage in difficult conversation with team.
