Job Description

Basic functions of the position – As a supervisory senior public health specialist, the incumbent will serve as the Associate Director for Global Health Security and senior public health technical advisor to the Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP) Program Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) India office. The incumbent will oversee the development, implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of DGHP public health technical program activities and studies to support the Global Health Security (GHS) Agenda and related public health activities.  S/he will provide leadership for DGHP-supported national public health activities designed to improve India’s public health systems in alignment with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) International Health Regulation core capacities.  S/he will provide leadership for the GHS technical team, serves as a member of the DGHP senior management team, oversees GHS-related public health activities in laboratory systems strengthening, disease surveillance, One Health, public health workforce development, border health, and public health and disaster emergency response and preparedness and reports to the DGHP Program Director as the senior technical expert and principal advisor on GHS programs.  The job holder is a primary GHS liaison to the host government and other partners to foster a collaborative environment and ensure that CDC-funded GHS activities are planned and executed in alignment with national priorities.  The incumbent will play an essential role in developing annual DGHP program strategies and budgets, completing progress reports related to program activities and overseeing administrative management of implementing partners to ensure projects are conducted in accordance with approved workplans and USG funds are appropriately utilized.  S/he will develop, oversee, coordinate and manage new initiatives, special activities and programs impacting GHS capacity in India by providing technical support, advice and guidance for day-to-day management and coordination of public health activities with internal and external stakeholder and by guiding key programmatic decisions regarding GHS public health programs.  The position requires advanced public health knowledge, results-oriented analytical skills, advocacy, and regular, clear communication with implementing partners, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and host country ministries responsible for GHS public health programs.  The incumbent will have direct supervisory responsibilities for other senior technical staff in the office, including Laboratory, Surveillance/One Health, Workforce Development and Public Health Emergency Management staff. The incumbent will perform other duties as assigned.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • A doctoral level terminal degree (MBBS, MD, PhD, or DrPH) in medicine, public health, epidemiology, health policy, infectious diseases, microbiology, or other health science field.
  • Experience: Six years of senior -level public health experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating public health, global health security, or other relevant public health programs within infectious diseases. Out of which one year of supervisory experience.

Language:

  • Fluent in English (Speaking, Reading, and Writing). This may be tested.

                AND

  • Fluent in Hindi (Speaking, Reading, and Writing).
