Job Description

Technical Pesticide Expert will be responsible for providing technical expertise and support in the development and application of projects pertaining to pesticide risk reduction and regulation of pesticides. This role involves providing advice and conducting research on real customer data alongside global pesticide regulation and standards, toxicity risk profiling and identification of lower risk pest management products (including biological controls), practical use within IPM programmes, as well as best practices use to ensure compliance with maximum residue levels and other relevant standards, guidelines and other market requirements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and management of projects & programmes on pesticide risk reduction and provide technical advice and training on the life cycle management of pesticides
  • Provide technical support and guidance to CABI team members and external clients on pesticide classification, toxicity risk profiling, identification of lower risk pest management products (including biological controls) and practical use within IPM programmes.
  • Provide technical support and guidance on pesticide use and safety.
  • Develop and deliver training programmes on pesticide regulation, risk reduction, application, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide technical advice on the effectiveness of pesticide applications in specific crop pest combinations and recommend alternative.
  • Provide advice to ensure compliance with national and international regulations regarding pesticide use.
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies to stay updated on changes in Asia and global pesticide regulations and standards.
  • Engage with public and private partners on industry trends and implications of pesticide usage or phase out
  • Build and manage strong relationships with national and private sector partners to foster strong relationships and productive collaborations
  • Work with CABI global team to synthesize factsheets, reports, research data to prepare technical reports, effective documentation, and presentations on pesticide-related topics.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
  • Provide expert advice on pest identification and control measures.
  • Coordinate and effectively network with project board / team members to provide necessary support in project implementation
  • Adhere to CABI policies and procedures at the centre, including access to biodiversity, quarantine, HR and Health and Safety requirements, financial and project management procedures, risk management and Intellectual Property Rights
  • Support the Regional Director and regional centre team as well as relevant Global Director(s) in delivering the CABI Goals & CABI’s Medium Term Strategy (MTS) as well as CABI member country engagement strategy.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • Master’s degree in plant Protection or Agrochemicals or Agronomy or Horticulture or Plant Pathology or Entomology.
  • A Ph. D degree with a research work in related subject would be preferred
  • Fluent spoken and written English; knowledge of local languages would be advantageous.

 Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience which would include pesticide research, development and practical operational application or regulation.
  • Demonstrable experience of working closely with or from within the private sectors e.g. suppliers, food production companies, food and beverage corporates or the crop protection industry, in the field of plant protection and involvement in multi-stakeholder projects related to plant protection regulation
  • Experience of working in multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure adoption of approaches that deliver high-impact results
  • In-depth knowledge of pesticide chemistry, toxicology, environmental impact and pesticide risk reduction methodologies and measures.
  • Familiarity with Asia regional pesticide regulation and international voluntary standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for data analysis and reporting.
  • Demonstratable experience in preparation of clear, concise technical documents and reports in English is a strong asset

Skills

  • Certification in pesticide application or related fields.
  • Experience in conducting field trials and experiments.
  • Knowledge of integrated pest management (IPM) principles.
