This is a collaborative project between Piramal Swasthya Management & Research Institute, Madras Diabetes Research Foundation and Public Health Foundation of India. The project aims to achieve the following:
- Evidence-based models for primordial and primary prevention developed based on formative research and pilot interventions in place and ready for scale up
- Interventions to improve knowledge and practices towards risk factors of DM through school based primordial and primary prevention approaches
- Increased health literacy and knowledge about diabetes prevention among tribal women of reproductive age through community influencers leveraging committees and institutions
About the Role
The role is expected to work towards,

- Oversee the creation and adaptation of diverse educational and communication materials (print, audio-visual, digital) in relevant local languages and formats, ensuring cultural sensitivity and age-appropriateness for tribal students and youth.
- Plan and implement a range of interactive and participatory SBCC activities, including school-based programs, community workshops, health talks, peer education initiatives, and culturally resonant community events, promoting healthy lifestyles and NCD prevention.
- Support the formative research to understand the knowledge, attitudes, practices, and social norms related to NCDs and their modifiable risk factors in tribal communities. Use insights to develop and adapt SBCC strategies that target these behaviors effectively.
- Oversee the development and implementation of educational programs (e.g., health talks, workshops, and peer education) within schools, youth clubs, and community settings, to promote healthy lifestyles, balanced nutrition, and physical activity.
- Develop and deliver training programs for teachers, community health workers, peer educators, and project staff on SBCC principles and NCD prevention messaging. Provide ongoing mentorship and support to ensure effective delivery of interventions at the field level.
- Design and implement robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track the reach, engagement, and effectiveness of SBCC interventions. Use data from surveys, focus groups, and community assessments to refine strategies and improve future activities.
- Ensure that national and global NCD prevention messages are accurately and sensitively adapted to align with local traditions, languages, values, and beliefs of the tribal communities.
