Reports to: Clinical Director/Senior Clinicians at sites
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF SENIOR CLINICIANS
SUMMARY
- ✓ To lead a multidisciplinary team in providing comprehensive community-based mental health care to clients and their families in the assigned region.
- ✓ To provide mentorship, supervision, guidance and training to junior staff, mental health workers (MHWs) and community volunteers.
- ✓ To conduct advanced assessments and develop care plans for clients with mental illnesses.
- ✓ To ensure the implementation of evidence-based interventions and recovery-oriented practices.
- ✓ To act as a liaison between the community clinic and external stakeholders, including ASHA Workers, Anganwadi Teachers, and Local Authorities.
- ✓ To ensure high-quality care delivery and contribute to service development initiatives.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
CLINICAL
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations and biopsychosocial assessments of clients in the assigned region.
- Oversee the medication management of the clients under the guidance of Consultant Psychiatrist.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of comprehensive, person-centred treatment plans for clients with mental illnesses.
- Supervise and guide junior clinicians in diagnostic evaluations, assessments, and psychosocial interventions.
- Implement, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions emphasizing recovery-oriented practices.
- Facilitate clinical meetings to discuss cases and provide collective support for the management.
- Develop home-based treatment plans for clients who require it.
- Conduct/supervise monthly client support groups (CSG) and multiple family support groups (MFSG) in the clinics under the assigned region.
- Ensure that fundamental human rights are met for all clients and advocate for their overall development in collaboration with the Social Development Team.
ADMINISTRATIVE
- Familiarise and adhere to all MHAT policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
- Oversee the case management within the community clinics of the assigned region.
- Ensure the proper functioning of community clinics and the delivery of high-quality care.
- Ensure proper documentation and maintenance of patient records according to MHAT standards in case files and the MCare Application.
- Submit work, leave, and absence reports to the administrative section in a timely manner.
- Organize, participate in, and contribute to academic programs, case discussions, clinic reviews, and staff meetings.
- Organize the weekly/monthly review meetings with the community partners.
- Report problems/challenges encountered in the community clinics to the Head of Community Clinical Services/ Clinical Director.
- Perform additional clinical/administrative responsibilities entrusted by the Clinical Director/ Head of the Community Clinical Services.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Maintain high professional standards within agreed professional boundaries. ➢ Take responsibility for updating personal knowledge and skills to meet the demands of the post.
- Actively participate in all mandatory training sessions and MHAT's academic training programs.
- Take biweekly professional guidance and clinical supervision from the assigned supervisors/mentors.
- Take group supervision for complex cases in the weekly meetings of Senior Clinicians.
- Follow MHAT's code of conduct and clinical guidelines, and use self-care strategies to maintain personal well-being.
SUPERVISION AND MENTORING
- Provide regular supervision and mentorship to junior clinicians and mental health workers.
- Receive guidance and supervision from senior consultants to maintain quality work. Conduct weekly supervision/training sessions for clinicians and MHWs to discuss cases/clinical concepts and provide guidance.
- Organize group supervision programs and ensure that junior staff receive quality supervision.
- Act as a role model and provide leadership in clinical and professional development.
- Ensure that the junior clinicians and MHWs adhere to the clinical and professional guidelines of MHAT.
EDUCATION/TEACHING
- Participate in and contribute to MHAT's educational and training activities.
- Provide training for the junior clinicians and MHWs on the areas/concepts/assessments relevant to the clinical services.
- Provide training to the community mental health volunteers of the assigned clinics.
- Conduct training programs in the community to enhance mental health awareness and skills.
- Act as a trainer in external courses offered by MHAT (e.g., Introductory, Internship).
- Plan the internship schedule, lectures, and activities of interns, as well as provide professional guidance.
RESEARCH
- Lead and assist in MHAT's ongoing research projects and activities. ➢ Identify research needs and propose relevant research projects related to community based mental health.
- Design and conduct research projects within one's capabilities and contribute to the evidence base in mental health care.
SERVICE DEVELOPMENT
- Take an active role in service development and improvement initiatives within the community clinic.
- Collaborate with community resources to enhance service delivery.
- Participate in clinic development activities and ensure the integration of community resources into mental health care.
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION AND APPRAISAL
- Prepare for and actively participate in the annual performance appraisal process.
- Provide feedback and support to junior clinicians and MHWs during their performance evaluations.
- Ensure that the assigned team meets performance standards and contributes to the overall goals of MHAT.
