Job Description
WWF-India is seeking an ecologist with strong field research skills and a passion for applied conservation. The role involves bird monitoring, habitat studies, and telemetry research, with fieldwork in challenging terrains. Candidates should blend rigorous ecological research with on-ground conservation, including species assessments, habitat evaluations, data analysis, and technical reporting. Based in New Delhi, the position supports teams across India in implementing raptor conservation strategies. A proactive, solution-oriented approach is essential for success in this dynamic, field-based role.
- Design and implement bird population assessments, habitat use studies, and long-term monitoring protocols.
- Lead telemetry studies, nesting ecology assessments, or movement ecology work where relevant.
- Analyse field data and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and technical reports.
- Identify priority species, sites, and threats to inform conservation action plans.
- Co-develop species recovery plans, site-based conservation interventions, and threat mitigation strategies.
- Integrate bird conservation components into broader landscape or ecosystem-based planning.
- Collaborate closely with Forest Departments, academic institutions, community-based organizations, and key stakeholders at local, regional, and national levels.
- Coordinate with RCP colleagues to facilitate partnerships with State and Central agencies, develop MoUs, and strengthen collaborative conservation efforts across scales.
- Undertake / support analyses/ support teams for projects and deliverables that need technical inputs, and mentor / build capacities of colleagues for data analysis
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Master’s degree or PhD in Wildlife Ecology, Zoology, Conservation Biology, or related field.
- Minimum [5] years of experience in ecology or avian ecology and conservation
- Proven track record in ecological research, preferably with publications.
- Familiarity with GIS, remote sensing, and statistical tools (e.g., R, DISTANCE, MaxEnt).
- Experience working with government agencies and local communities.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and team-building skills.
