About the Organization
VIPS—TC is amongst the first few educational Institutions in the country to have a dedicated Centre of Sustainable Development with multifold objectives to not only address the education gap by offering structured course curriculum but also carry out research, training, case studies and suggest strategies in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as enumerated by U.N of which Indian Government is a signatory. The Centre is headed by Prof. (Dr.) Rattan Sharma.
Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies—Technical Campus (VIPS—TC) was founded in the year 2000, and is affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.
About the Conference
Viksit Bharat@2047 is the Government of India's ambitious aim to transform the country into a Developed Nation by the century of its independence in 2047. India has witnessed substantial economic growth due to improvements in technology and a mushrooming startup ecosystem. Besides this, our country has collaborated on issues like climate change, trade agreements, sustainability pledges to name a few as part of diplomatic and development efforts. However, the tale of India's development is more than just a shift; it is the outcome of on integration of the Indian Knowledge System, diversified culture, innovative approach, and sustainable practices adopted.
With a GDP of $3.7 trillion, India is now ranked as the world's fifth-largest economy. According to estimates, India's GDP will surpass Japan and Germany by 2030. According to S&P, India's nominal GDP is expected to grow from $3.4 trillion in 2022 to $7.3 trillion by 2030. The Indian economy has undergone significant transformations over the post decode and is now poised for growth. In recent years, policies and initiatives have resulted in huge expansions of social and economic infrastructure.
In order to make India developed country by 2047, Viksit Bharat's vision centres on four key areas: economic growth, environmental sustainability, social progress, and good governance. In the achievement of the Viksit Bharat goal, the Indian government has set nine priorities in its 2024 budget: productivity and resilience in agriculture, employment and skilling, inclusive human development and social justice, manufacturing and services, urban development, energy security, infrastructure, innovation research and development, and next-gen reforms. However, in order to realize this vision, a number of challenges must be addressed, such as social injustice, environmental degradation, rapid urbanization, and climate change. The Economic Survey has underlined various challenges in the path of attainment of Viksit Bharat, highlighting the importance of strategic planning to maintain supply security, balance energy needs with economic and environmental goals, and handle increasing technological implications.
In light of this, it is essential to align sustainability objectives with India's diverse array of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS). The IKS offers a centuries- old framework for sustainable living, integrating historical insights, cultural wisdom, and indigenous traditions. It is critical to acknowledge and integrate these old traditions into current sustainability initiatives as India strives to develop Viksit Bharat by 2047. The Indian Knowledge System is the transfer of knowledge from one generation to the next. This is on organized knowledge transfer procedure, not merely a tradition. Vedic literature is considered the foundation of India's knowledge tradition. The Indian Knowledge System includes Upanishads, Vedas, and Upvedas. India refers to Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, a phrase from the Hindu text the Maha Upanishad which means “The World is One Family”. The phrase encourages people to consider the well-being of others, creating global solidarity and responsibility, particularly in solving critical challenges such as climate change, sustainable development, peace, and tolerance for differences.
The Knowledge System in India provide on important understanding of various aspects like resource management, agriculture, water conservation, and community development. The challenge is to integrate these indigenous methods into modern techniques and sustainable development goals. Indian economy con definitely pioneer ways for providing culturally rich and sustainable solutions to various world problems. Thus, the conference provides a forum for multidisciplinary discussions on the integration of Indian Knowledge Systems and sustainability, paving the path for Viksit Bharat's vision. The conference being organized by the Centre for Sustainable Development will bring together experts from various disciplines like management, low, journalism, information technology, economics, and languages to deliberate the synthesis of sustainable practices provided in our Indian Knowledge Systems to attain the goal of Viksit Bharat.
The multidisciplinary conference will provide a platform for various disciplines to engage in discussions on diverse sub-themes, fostering a collaborative exchange of ideas. The discussion will revolve around the potential of technology to identify sustainable solutions derived from Indian Knowledge Systems which will further the vision of Viksit Bharat.
By emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration, the conference aims to empower local communities and advocate for policy frameworks thot support the amalgamation of indigenous knowledge into sustainability strategies. Participants from various fields will engage in collaborative dialogue through research papers, keynote presentations, and panel discussions to shore insights, best practices, and sustainable recommendations.
The main objective of the conference is to create and explore opportunities for incorporating Indian knowledge into modern sustainability practices, along with fostering collaboration amongst various stakeholders. Further, practical recommendations can be created for policy development. It will also provide a platform to support the local community and their contributions towards sustainability along with subject experts, who from different fields will help to construct a holistic framework based on the principles of IKS. This conference will also assist young scholars and researchers in understanding & achieving a better sustainable, and resilient Viksit Bharat.
The conference promises many significant outcomes, including a comprehensive report summarizing the conference discussions, insights, and recommendations, as well as the publication of papers in the form of books and journals.
Additionally, policymakers will be assisted in effectively incorporating the Indian Knowledge System into notional and state-level sustainability initiatives and making the economy Viksit Bharat. The theme "Aligning Sustainability with Indian Knowledge Systems for a Viksit Bharat" will line up with ancient wisdom and contemporary sustainability methods, across various disciplines.
