Job Description

The Block Coordinator will be responsible for supporting immunization initiatives across multiple blocks in Damoh, Panna, Rewa, Satna, and Singrauli districts of Madhya Pradesh. Reporting to the Project Coordinator/District Coordinator, the role involves participation in block-level immunization meetings, conducting monthly reviews with medical officers, and undertaking extensive field visits to identify high-risk areas, underserved communities, and zero-dose children. The coordinator will work closely with ASHAs, community health officers, and local leaders to address vaccine hesitancy, integrate zero-dose communities into service delivery plans, and facilitate house-to-house engagements for immunization awareness. Additionally, the role includes planning demand-generation activities, supporting frontline workers in tracking immunization coverage, assisting in UWIN registration, preparing periodic reports, and documenting best practices. The candidate should have a bachelor's degree in social work or a related field, with 1-2 years of experience (preferably in public health) and proficiency in Hindi and English. Strong community engagement skills and knowledge of local dialects will be an added advantage.            

Job Responsibilities

Key Deliverables (including but not limited to):

  • Participate in relevant block-level meetings related to immunization, such as the Block Task Force for Immunization (BTFI), and present project progress and community feedback.
  • Conduct monthly reviews of immunization status in the blocks, in coordination with all supervisory cadres and the Medical Officer.
  • Undertake field visits for supportive supervision and problem-solving for at least 20 days per month, focusing on the following:
  • Conduct Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) exercises and social mapping of ASHA/mobilizer areas to identify:
  • Hamlets or pockets not served by ANMs/ASHAs, including:
  • High-risk areas (e.g., geographically difficult or cut-off areas)
  • Tribal and nomadic populations
  • Habitations of seasonal migratory populations
  • Peri-urban settlements
  • Zero Dose (ZD) children or pockets, and analyze reasons for vaccine avoidance, including service and demand-related factors, with a gender-sensitive lens
  • Local leaders or influential individuals who can mobilize vaccine-hesitant families
  • Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) that can support vaccination efforts
  • Broader reasons behind vaccine hesitancy or refusal
  • Advocate for the inclusion of ZD communities in Sub-Health Centre (SHC) microplans and communication action plans at both the district and block levels.
  • Facilitate house-to-house engagement by ASHAs/mobilizers to counsel vaccine-hesitant families and refer them to immunization services.
  • Support supervisory cadres (e.g., ASHA Facilitators, Community Health Officers) in providing supportive supervision to frontline workers (FLWs) and ensure regular tracking of ZD communities.
  • Plan and implement demand generation activities, community engagement strategies, and integrated primary health care initiatives.
  • Facilitate registration of beneficiaries in the UWIN portal through FLWs and community engagement efforts.
  • Assist the District Coordinator in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Identify and document best practices and innovations emerging from the block.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor, consistent with the nature and level of responsibility of the position.

Necessary Skills

  • Good stakeholder management skills including establishing and managing relationship with the government and ability to influence practices
  • Ability to work under pressure and attend to any ad hoc functions as may be required
  • Good communication skills, sound comprehension and analytical abilities
  • Excellent community engagement skills
  • Willingness to travel to provide technical assistance across the district for meeting the timelines.
  • Computer proficiency with high level of familiarity with commonly used packages like MS Word, Excel, Power Point
