The mission of Akshar Foundation is to spread the Indian Education Model throughout the world.
The Indian Education Model is the foundation of an ancient system of knowledge gathering and transmission, a continuous culture spanning nearly 5000 years in the past to the present. The Indian tradition can be contrasted with the Occidental tradition of the West, which emerged from Ancient Greece. The Occidental tradition believes in mind-body separation. The mind is treated as a separate entity, the focus of Western education.
Job Description
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will play a critical role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of Government Schools across Pan India and Akshar Forum in Guwahati, ensuring the effective implementation of educational programs, managing resources efficiently, and aligning the organization’s activities with its mission. The COO will work closely with the Co-founders and Founder and other leadership team members to achieve strategic goals and maintain operational excellence.
Job Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Execution:
- Collaborate with the executive team to develop and execute the organization’s strategic vision and goals.
- Oversee the alignment of operational activities with the overall mission of providing education.
- Implement strategies for scaling programs, reaching new Schools, or expanding geographic coverage.
- Analyze and recommend adjustments to operational processes based on performance data.
Program Management and Delivery:
- Ensure the effective and efficient delivery of educational programs and services to the schools.
- Oversee curriculum development, teaching methods, and learning materials, ensuring they meet the needs of students and align with best practices.
- Manage and coordinate education-related projects, ensuring timely completion, budget adherence, and quality control.
- Develop and maintain systems for monitoring and evaluating program impact.
Financial Oversight and Budgeting:
- Develop and monitor the operational budget, ensuring the efficient use of funds and alignment with program priorities.
- Coordinate with the finance team to track expenses, manage resources, and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
- Identifies cost-saving opportunities and manages funding allocation to maximize impact.
- Ensures transparency and accountability in financial reporting to stakeholders.
Partnerships and Stakeholder Management:
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government bodies, donors, local communities, schools, and other educational organizations.
- Represent Akshar in external forums, conferences, and with potential partners or donors.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration, partnerships, and funding to enhance Akshar’s impact.
- Advocate for policies and practices that promote quality education and the mission of Akshar.
Risk Management and Compliance:
- Identify and manage operational risks, ensuring that Akshar complies with all relevant Local and National regulations.
- Ensure that programs and operations adhere to ethical standards and educational best practices.
- Develop contingency plans and crisis management strategies to address potential operational disruptions.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with donor requirements and reporting standards.
Data and Impact Measurement:
- Develop and implement systems for tracking and analyzing program outcomes and organizational performance.
- Use data to inform decision-making, improve program effectiveness, and report on results to stakeholders.
- Work with the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) team to assess the impact of educational initiatives and identify areas for improvement.
- Communicate results and insights to stakeholders, donors to demonstrate the Akshar’s impact.
Advocacy and Public Relations:
- Promotes the mission and goals of the NGO to the public, raising awareness about educational issues and Akshar’s work.
- Work with the communications team to develop and implement marketing and PR strategies to strengthen the Akshar’s brand and reputation.
- Advocate for policies that improve access to education, particularly for marginalized communities or underserved areas.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Total work experiences of at least 15 Years
- Proven experience (8 - 10 years) in a senior role, preferably in the non-profit sector (Education Fellowships/Education NGOs)
- Experience in implementing education programs or initiatives, particularly in collaboration with government schools.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Sound knowledge of financial management principles and experience managing budgets.
- Travelling will be part of job role
