Simple Education Foundation (SEF) is a not-for-profit organization based in Delhi. It was started in 2014 by two Teach For India alumni, and was registered as a trust.

About the Delhi State Program

The Delhi State Program, in partnership with the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Delhi, works closely with the state’s Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) initiative, NIPUN Sankalp to strengthen teaching and learning across primary and upper primary grades (Grades 1 to 8).

Aligned with the vision of NEP 2020, NIPUN Sankalp focuses on ensuring that all children achieve grade-appropriate foundational skills through coherent and system-aligned efforts across curriculum, teacher professional development, classroom practice, and assessment systems.

• Within this partnership, SEF is working towards building a high-quality, structured FLN ecosystem by strengthening:
• Curriculum and learning progressions
• Teacher guides and student materials
• Practice-based teacher professional development
• Continuous academic support and coaching
• Data-informed assessment systems
• As part of this work, we are also aiming to co-create a unique FLN framework that reflects SEF’s core philosophy, grounded in conceptual understanding, joyful learning, contextual relevance, and 
• strong classroom practice, while remaining aligned with state priorities and scalable within the government system.
• This role will contribute directly to shaping this vision into tangible, classroom-ready resources.

About the Role

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) Consultant will play a critical role in strengthening the design of FLN-aligned curriculum and instructional materials for English/ Hindi/Mathematics.

This is a 2-month, project-based role, focused on developing high-quality, structured, and classroom-ready curriculum resources, aligned to NIPUN Sankalp priorities and Delhi’s classroom context.

The consultant will work closely with SEF’s program and design teams, and collaborate with SCERT stakeholders where required.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Curriculum Design & Learning Progressions
• Develop year-long subject-wise scope and sequence
• Create grade-wise competency-based learning progressions
• Map skills and define clear mastery benchmarks
• Ensure alignment with NCF, NIPUN Bharat, and state priorities
• Teacher Guide & Student Material Framework
• Design structured teacher guide framework & samples
• Develop student workbooks framework & samples aligned to competencies
• Support team with review 
• Instructional Design & Pedagogical Alignment
• Embed evidence-based FLN pedagogies into framework design.
• Ensure materials reflect structured pedagogy principles
• Align content with realistic classroom time and constraints
• Assessment Alignment
• Support design of formative and summative assessments
• Ensure alignment between learning outcomes, instruction, and assessment
• Contribute to development of baseline/endline tools (if required)
• Iteration & Quality Assurance

Review and refine materials based on feedback from:

• SEF team
• SCERT stakeholders
• Ensure clarity, usability, and classroom applicability of all outputs
• Collaboration & Program Integration
• Work closely with SEF design team
• Participate in design discussions and reviews
• Ensure alignment with broader teacher professional development design

Competencies for this role

• Curriculum & Instructional Design Expertise Strong understanding of FLN curriculum design, including learning progressions, scope & sequence, and competency-based design.
• Pedagogical Depth in Subject Area Deep conceptual understanding of English / Hindi / Mathematics, with ability to translate concepts into effective classroom practices.
• Structured Material Development Ability to create high-quality teacher guides and student materials that are practical, clear, and classroom-ready.
• Systems Thinking & Alignment Ability to align curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment within a structured pedagogy framework.
• Contextual Adaptation Experience designing for government school contexts, including multilingual and diverse classrooms.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 3-6 years of experience in:
• Curriculum design
• Instructional design
• Educational content development
• Prior experience in Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) curriculum design is highly preferred
• Experience working with:
• Government systems / SCERT / NCERT
• Large-scale education programs (preferred)

Educational qualification:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or relevant subject area

Required Skills

• Strong curriculum design and content development skills
• Ability to design structured learning experiences
• Excellent writing and articulation (English/Hindi depending on role)
• Strong attention to detail and quality
• Ability to work within tight timelines

Desirable Skills

• Experience with NIPUN Bharat / state FLN programs Familiarity with NCF 2022/2023 frameworks

Project Compensation: 

• INR 60,000 - 80,000/-  for full assignment.
