Job Description

PATH is looking for highly motivated, self-starter, and enthusiastic interns to work with the young and dynamic Strategy and Business Development team. The interns will get an opportunity to operate in a zestful and evolving environment to contribute to a growing portfolio of impactful work in public health. Key responsibilities will be to provide support on activities including, but not limited to knowledge management, assistance in developing concept notes and proposals, decks and program strategy documents for PATH India programs. He/she will also have the opportunity to work closely with all program verticals, including Neglected Tropical Diseases, Tuberculosis and HIV, Mother and Child Health and Nutrition, Vaccines, Impact Lab, and digital health.

Job Responsibilities

Strategy and project implementation / management for connectivity conservation

  • Align project implementation with WWF India’s conservation strategies, landscape strategies and TAI’s strategy.
  • Monitor implementation of connectivity components of landscape programs and enable teams to implement these in a timely and rigorous way, and assist with project/ programmatic M&E
  • Support/ lead design of surveys/ analyses to assess structural/ functional connectivity and support teams in the implementation of these surveys.
  • Support advocacy / planning related to linear infrastructure and related issues.
  • Develop tools, approaches, frameworks to advance connectivity science/ associates aspects of WWF’s program.
  • Lead/ support the development of impactful/ management/ planning relevant products, including corridor profiles, and publish these regularly.
  • Plan and support multi-stakeholder workshops in the landscapes, and regularly engage with the government and other stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior colleagues to build capacity for connectivity conservation related work.
  • Actively build/ maintain synergies with the sustainable agriculture team, freshwater, business, governance and
  • Strategically develop and advance conservation using emerging technologies – using e-DNA and DNA meta bar-coding, and estimating demographic parameters for unmarked species.
  • Contribute to relevant fieldwork and project implementation, as relevant.

Program development:

  • Raise funds for connectivity conservation.
  • Support recruitment to fill connectivity-related positions and consultancies.
  • Write up proposals to secure additional funding for connectivity conservation work at WWF India.
  • Develop and maintain collaborations to advance conservation-genetics related aspects of the program.

Collaborative connectivity conservation

  • Represent WWF India in the Coalition for Wildlife Corridors and ensure that WWF contributes actively to all aspects of the coalition.
  • Routinely liaison with the nodal persons for the Coalition in other agencies.
  • Help with governance of the Coalition for corridors and contribute to outreach planned with the coalition.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • PhD in Ecology, conservation biology or related discipline with a specialisation in landscape or spatial ecology & conservation genetics.
  • Candidates with a M.Sc. in Wildlife Science/ Conservation Biology or other relevant disciplines, specialisation in landscape ecology and with 6 plus years of work experience may also be considered.
  • Experience in theory and practice of connectivity conservation is essential: this includes expertise in contemporary methods in connectivity modelling, conservation genetics/ genomics, advanced GIS and remote sensing skills, strong foundation in landscape ecology and a publication track record.
  • Additional expertise in animal movement modelling is desirable.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, manage diverse teams and complex projects and have strong organization and have strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Candidate must demonstrate an understanding of relevant social and governance aspects related to land use planning and corridor management
  • Candidate must be strongly committed to adopting a participatory approach that emphasises local stewardship in the management and governance of corridors.
