Job Description
WWF-India is one of the largest organisations engaged in wildlife and nature conservation over the past 50 years. We are inviting applications from candidates for the vacancy of Project Officer to be based in our Tezpur office.
Job Responsibilities
Programme Coordination and Management:
- Provide guidance and support to the team in the Brahmaputra Landscape to achieve WWF-India’s strategic objective/s for the landscape.
- Maintain management oversight and ensure effective implementation of all projects in the landscape; take responsibility for timely delivery of outcomes and achievement of set technical and financial targets.
- Enable the team to take up adaptive management steps for project implementation in the face of unforeseen challenges and otherwise.
- Ensure efficient and effective monitoring, evaluation and learning processes in the Brahmaputra Landscape.
- Work with all programme and other teams of WWF-India to meet the landscape’s conservation aims, that would include working with the Wildlife & Habitats team, Freshwater team, Sustainable Business team, the Climate Hub, the Environment Education team, and the state office; the two latter being on an as needed basis.
Project Development and Fund Mobilization:
- Conceptualise and develop funding proposals for the Brahmaputra Landscape basis the set strategic objectives.
- Support fundraising efforts including but not limited to responding to WWF-Network and external funding opportunities.
- Build, maintain and strengthen relationships with external and network donors
Partnerships, Policy and Communications:
- Provide strategic inputs and support the Team Leader, Brahmaputra Landscape in identifying and developing new partnership opportunities with diverse stakeholders.
- Strengthen outreach and communications from the landscape for both internal and external audiences.
- Take initiatives to organise workshops/meetings, prepare background documents, and prepare relevant documents for broader dissemination/advocacy in the landscape.
- Provide inputs for strategic discussions with key stakeholders to facilitate the main streaming of project interventions or learning thereof into policies and plans.
- Represent WWF-India in various fora as agreed with the Team Leader, Brahmaputra Landscape.
Operations and Administration:
- Take charge of financial and operational management of the Brahmaputra Landscape.
- Manage processes including coordination with the HR and Programme Finances team for third party and temporary hiring in the Brahmaputra landscape to support project implementation.
- Manage processes for onboarding of partners and consultants, including development, execution, and monitoring of relevant MoUs.
- Work closely with the Programme Operations team to coordinate and track the procurement of goods and services for the Brahmaputra Landscape.
- Ensure implementation of policies, procedures, and systems for all Human Resources management, financial and administrative matters as applicable in WWF-India for the Brahmaputra Landscape
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- MBA or equivalent or master's degree in biology, ecology, conservation science or social science. Any other related discipline would be evaluated too. A PhD is desirable.
- At least 15 years, with proven track records in managing teams and multi-stakeholder relationships. 3 to 5 years' experience in a leadership role will be an added advantage.
- The candidate needs to have top class project management skills, experience in policy level engagements with senior government officials and an understanding of conservation or development work.
- Work experience from NE India will be an added advantage.
- Command over English writing and speaking is a must; and reading and speaking in Assamese and Hindi is highly desirable.
- The candidate should have skills to work in a diverse team, some of whom will be more qualified and experienced than him/her.
- It's a must that the candidate respects all and develops a culture of collaboration, timely delivery of results and focusses on impacts on ground.
