What We Can Achieve Together:

To lead and support TNC’s landscape restoration initiatives by providing technical expertise, strategic planning, and program implementation, ensuring the restoration of degraded ecosystems while balancing environmental, social, and economic objectives.

We’re Looking for You:

Roles and responsibilities:

1.  Strategic Leadership and Program Development:

  • Lead the design and implementation of large-scale landscape restoration strategies aligned to TNC’s mission and global priorities,

such as reforestation, ecosystem restoration, and regenerative land-use practices.

  • Coordinate across teams to identify priority landscapes for restoration and develop actionable plans.
  • Through NCIS conservation programmes, work towards global/national restoration targets, including the Bonn Challenge, UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, UN Convention on Combating Desertification, NDCs, SDGs, LDN and TNC’s goals.

2.  Technical Expertise and Advisory:

  • Provide technical guidance on restoration methodologies, such as agroforestry, native species reforestation, invasive species management, and soil and water conservation.
  • Incorporate cutting-edge science and innovations, including nature-based solutions and climate-smart practices, into restoration projects.
  • Lead the development of decision-support tools, including GIS and remote sensing for restoration monitoring and planning.

3.  Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships:

  • Foster partnerships with governments, private sector actors, community groups, and other NGOs to advance restoration efforts.
  • Lead multi-stakeholder processes to ensure inclusive, equitable, and participatory restoration initiatives.
  • Represent TNC in high-level meetings, conferences, and forums (in India and globally) related to landscape restoration and climate adaptation.

4.  Capacity Building, Knowledge Sharing, Mentoring:

  • Conduct workshops and training programs for TNC staff, local communities, and partners to enhance technical and institutional capacities.
  • Promote knowledge-sharing through case studies, publications, and best practices in landscape restoration.
  • Collaborate with research institutions to build a strong evidence base for restoration initiatives

5.  Project Implementation and Monitoring:

  • Develop and implement operational plans and procedures that enhance program delivery. Lead the management of high-priority project implementation, ensuring adherence to timelines, scope, and quality standards.
  • Identify and secure funding opportunities from donors, governments, and private sector partners to expand restoration efforts.
  • Prepare grant proposals, concept notes, and donor reports

Deliverables:

  • Comprehensive landscape restoration plans and strategies for priority areas.
  • Stakeholder engagement frameworks and partnership agreements.
  • Monitoring reports detailing ecological, social, economic outcomes of restoration projects.
  • Capacity-building materials and training sessions for partners and communities.
  • Policy recommendations and communications materials relating to landscape restoration.

What Will You Bring:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or related field with a minimum of 10 years of experience.
  • Collaboration with international organizations, government agencies, and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage large-scale, multi-stakeholder conservation projects.
  • Experience working with NGOs, government agencies, and private sector partners.
  • Experience working with local communities, and government agencies is required.
  • Knowledge of international frameworks such as REDD+, carbon markets, and the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, Monitoring Evaluation and Learning and Theory of Change shall be an advantage.
  • Strong communication skills in English (both written and spoken).
  • Experience in handling complex projects, including financial aspects and coordination with peers and partners.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in restoration planning tools (e.g., ROAM), GIS, remote sensing technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of ecological restoration principles, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable agriculture practices.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Commitment to TNC’s values, including equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12-15 years of experience in Environmental Science, Ecology, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or related field
  • Team management experience with Strong network and connections.
  • On-ground implementation expertise.
  • Candidates have Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Strategic thinking and advanced analytical abilities.

to Director, Programs and work closely with TNC’s science, conservation, and policy teams, as well as external partners.
