Job Description

This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in undertaking empirical research work in development economics in the future. The projects associated with lab will expose the RA to various surveys and experimental methodologies, econometric methodologies, microeconomic theories for development economics, data handling, problem statements and analytical tools. In recent past, most of the RAs from the lab have joined Ph.D. programs in Economics and Applied Economics in top ranked departments in North America (UC Santa Cruz, McGill University, Virginia Tech, and University of Georgia). Others have taken up research positions at World Bank, IFPRI, J-PAL and other policy think-tanks. We encourage those candidates to apply who are keen to pursue doctoral studies in economics, applied economics, public policy, etc.

Job Responsibilities

• Writing research grants as a part of the lab in collaboration with the lead PI.
• Design and manage the implementation of field experiments and surveys.
• Data cleaning and management and running High Frequency Checks (HFCS).
• Developing econometric specifications and estimating results.
• Peer review and quality assurance for the VKPL-authored research and grant reports.
• Collaborate on research ideas with the professors associated with the VKPL and other research staff.
• Assist in the teaching of courses taught by VKPL faculty.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

• Post-graduate in Economics (including applied and mathematical economics), statistics, public policy, or other relevant social science fields with a strong quantitative focus).
• Basic econometric skills.
• Introductory knowledge of statistical software packages (STATA or R).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
• Preferably less than two years of work experience beyond post-graduate studies in relevant fields.
• Previous work experience in conducting field experiments, and/or quasi-experiments will be preferred.
• Fresh post-graduate can also apply for the position.

Salary

Candidates should be available to initiate the work at the earliest. Start date (earliest) April 15, 2025. VKPL offers a consolidated remuneration of Rs. 50,000/- per month based on qualification and skills.
