Role Overview
The Project Manager will play a pivotal role in strengthening Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and enhancing the participation of women farmers in agribusiness. This role requires strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building to drive inclusive rural development and climate-resilient agriculture.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Implementation:
- Lead the design, planning, and execution of climate-resilient agriculture projects.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance FPO business revenue, supply chains, and collective marketing.
- Establish and strengthen market linkages with buyers, retailers, and government procurement agencies.
- Ensure project alignment with national and regional climate adaptation policies.
- Develop and manage detailed project work plans, timelines, and budgets.
FPO Capacity Building:
- Strengthen existing FPOs and support the formation of new ones.
- Provide guidance on governance, management, and financial sustainability.
- Mobilize and enrol women farmers into FPOs, promoting leadership and decision-making roles.
- Conduct training on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and negotiation skills.
- Facilitate awareness programs on FPO benefits and women’s role in agribusiness.
Sustainable Agriculture & Technology Adoption:
- Promote climate-resilient farming techniques, water conservation, and organic practices.
- Facilitate the adoption of modern agri-technologies to enhance productivity.
Marketing & Sales Development:
- Develop sales strategies to achieve annual targets (1080 MT per year).
- Identify and engage with buyers, wholesalers, and distributors to expand market reach.
- Ensure quality control, branding, and packaging support for FPO products. Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with local communities, government agencies, NGOs, and research institutions.
- Advocate for climate-resilient agriculture policies at regional and national levels.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting:
- Implement a robust framework to track project outcomes and ensure timely interventions.
- Regularly assess project progress and prepare reports for donors and stakeholders.
Resource Mobilization:
- Identify funding opportunities and assist in proposal development.
- Manage project budgets effectively to optimize resource utilization.
Knowledge Management & Innovation:
- Facilitate learning workshops, field visits, and knowledge-sharing activities.
- Stay updated on trends in climate-smart agriculture, agro-ecology, and FPO models.
Qualifications & Experience
Educational Qualification:
- Graduate or Postgraduate Degree in Rural Development, Agricultural Sciences, or Social Development.
Experience:
- 10+ years in Agri-Marketing, Value Chain Development, and FPO management.
- Proven expertise in market linkages, procurement, and collective marketing.
- Experience in women’s empowerment programs within the agriculture sector.
- Strong background in climate-resilient agriculture and rural livelihoods.
- Government and donor relations experience, including knowledge of agencies like NABARD.
Essential Skills & Competencies
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills in English and Bengali/regional dialects.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in project management tools and office software.
- Sector Knowledge: Deep understanding of Agriculture, Marketing, and FPO business models.
- Marketing & Outreach: Strong skills in promoting FPO products and initiatives.
- Leadership & Team Management: Ability to manage diverse teams and drive organizational objectives.
- Willingness to Travel: Extensive field visits required across project locations.
Reporting Structure
- The Project Manager will report to the Program Manager / Deputy General Manager in Kolkata and will manage a team of 6-8 professionals across various functions.
Compensation
- Annual CTC: Up to 5 Lakh (Fixed) + Variable Pay + Commitment Bonus. Compensation will be aligned with qualifications, experience, and prior salary.
