About the Organization
The St. John's Research Institute (SJRI) is a part of the St John's National Academy of Health Sciences, which is run by the CBCI Society for Medical Education. From its inception, St. John's has set before it an ideal of excellence in academic courses as well as service to society as a result of which it has truly become holistic both in its outlook and in its approach to the problems of community health.
In 2000, the Academy decided that its commitment to excellence in research required the setting up of an Institute that was dedicated to the pursuit of research and capacity development in St. John's. This vision encompassed improvement of health of the community and patients through research and development of a Center for Excellence in medical research in India.
Job Description
The “Harmony” study is a 5-year research study conducted in collaboration between the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and St. John’s Research Institute (SJRI), Bangalore, funded by the US National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. The “Harmony” clinical trial study was designed to implement and evaluate a nurse-led behavioral intervention to reduce intimate partner violence (IPV) and alcohol use among low-income couples in Bangalore, using motivational interviewing and behavioral couple’s therapy.
Job Responsibilities
- To administer tablet-based questionnaires to study participants in Primary Health Centres (PHC) in Bangalore.
- To track, make follow up calls & schedule participants.
- To maintain study logs.
- Specific tasks assigned based on skills & project needs.
- Experience in data collection (experience with tablet-based data collection good, but not necessary, as we will provide training)
- Experience in conducting quantitative research interviews, preferably in a health care setting.
- Experience in talking with clients or research participants about sensitive topics.
- Experience working in a research project is an advantage.
- Training in human subject protection
- Excellent verbal and written communication in Kannada and basic English skills.
- Experience working with domestic violence victims is a plus.
- Solid time-management abilities with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal skills & a team player Organized and detail oriented.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule.
- Ability to establish rapport and work effectively with individuals of different ethnicities, socio-economic status, caste, gender, and sexual orientation.
- Willingness to travel to Primary Health Centres within Bangalore
- Willing to work late evening in the Field or office.
- Willing to work on Sundays and Holidays, they can take comp off as per SJRI rules
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Post Graduate in Psychology /Psychiatric Social Work
- Language: Kannada and English
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of working in a health care setting
