Job Description

Under the overall guidance of the WHO Representative to India and Deputy Head of WHO Country Office for India, technical oversight and day to day supervision of Team Leader Communicable Diseases, the incumbent will have the following responsibilities in her/his assigned area of work:

  • Collaborate with state authorities to plan, accelerate, and control malaria aiming for SDG targets by 2030.
  • Provide technical guidance to state health directorates on monitoring and surveillance of malaria in the high endemic districts of state.
  • Strengthen state capacity in developing and implementing roadmaps to reduce the burden of malaria.
  • Strengthen malaria surveillance systems, including case-based reporting, investigation, classification, and response at the state level.
  • Enhance information systems and health intelligence through IHIP for decision-making and evidence generation regarding malaria.
  • Provide ongoing support and supervision & mentoring and monitoring to all district-level health staff engaged in malaria control efforts.
  • Develop and implement training programs, conduct outbreak investigations, and ensure district-level health staff are equipped with the latest strategies and technologies for malaria control and elimination.
  • Review and assist in preparing quarterly progress updates for projects funded by donors.
  • Assist state in conducting micro-stratification, preparing micro-plans and support on implementation of intensified approaches for burden reduction. In areas of low transmission- support implementation of case/foci surveillance.
  • Built capacity of malaria programme colleagues for malaria burden reduction, elimination interventions (case management, vector control and surveillance).
  • Ensure that district health staff are updated on the latest malaria control strategies and technologies.
  • Support on investigation and response of malaria outbreaks within the district.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Team Leader and National Public Health Surveillance Project staff to implement and manage malaria programs efficiently.
  • Support for planning for involvement of private sectors for malaria elimination.
  • Support overarching goals of communicable disease prevention, control and elimination.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • University degree in Allopathic Medicine- MBBS or equivalent (MCI/State Medical Council registration essential) or public health or Epidemiology or public health entomology equivalent from a recognized institution/university.
  • Desirable: Post graduation in Community Medicine/Preventive & Social medicine/Public Health/Tropical Medicine/Epidemiology/Management or Health Administration/other allied fields

Experience:

  • Essential: At least one (1) year of public health experience after graduation of working with the Government, UN agencies
  • Desirable: Candidates with experience in public health/program management at district, divisional and state level and/or experience of working in the field of Malaria, Vector Borne Diseases and Neglected Tropical Diseases would be an added advantage
  • Languages: Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and working knowledge of local language will be an asset.
