About the Organization
The National Institute of Urban Affairs is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. It is a premier institute dedicated to advancing research, capacity building and knowledge dissemination in the urban sector.
Its mission is to promote pioneering research and expertise to advance integrated urban solutions, and build a robust discourse on emergent urban issues. It is achieved through training, and capacity development initiatives, collaborating closely with state governments and urban local bodies.
Job Description/Responsibilities
- Lead the execution of conceptual framework for city-level GDP estimation.
- Explore knowledge gaps e.g., identifying key research questions and steer research that needs to be addressed
- Identify suitable approaches for calculating GDP at the city level by reviewing existing national and regional GDP methodologies to suit the economic structure.
- Identify relevant data sources
- Address challenges (e.g.: informal economy estimation, sectoral contributions), and missing data.
- Coordinate with the high level committee comprising members from Niti Aayog, MOSPI, municipal commissioners, research institutions, and private sector organizations.
- Collaborate with statistical departments to access relevant datasets.
- Oversee the application of quantitative techniques, econometric models, and spatial analysis to estimate city GDP.
- Provide guidance in trend analysis, sectoral breakdowns, and economic impact assessments.
- Author or co-author knowledge products (e.g., reports, briefs, data-products)
- Undertake any other duties of equivalent standing as assigned by the team leader/Director
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- A PhD or M. Phil. degree from a recognised academic institution in Economics, Statistics (specialisation: Econometrics), Data Analytics, Population Studies or Demography or related fields.
- Atleast 10-12 years of relevant work experience, in leading multidisciplinary research projects, or consultancy work environment, managing all aspects of a project including multi-partner consultations, interactions with government agencies.
- Applicants with Master’s degree in Economics, Statistics (specialisation: Econometrics), Data Analytics, Population Studies or Demography or related fields from a recognised academic/professional institution can also apply with atleast 15 years of work experience.
- Proficiency in research methodologies, quantitative and qualitative analysis tools, survey design and methods, documenting and communicating research outputs.
- Demonstrate strong report writing and reviewing skills.
- Applicant must have publications in reputed international journals.
- Knowledge of employment related secondary data sources (CMIE, IHDS and ASI) and other data sources such as Census of India, NSSO
