Role

We are looking for a Social Worker for our Comprehensive Care Team in Delhi – a team member who will provide wraparound support to the individuals and communities we represent. The social worker will primarily be responsible for providing direct support to survivors of child sexual abuse and their families. Additionally, the social worker will also work with children (alleged to be) in conflict with law in planning interventions for their rehabilitation. The role entails liaisoning with and reporting to the Child Welfare Committees (CWC), Juvenile Justice Board, Child Care Institutions and other agencies. The social worker may also be required to support other verticals as and when required.

Responsibilities

The social worker will be performing the duties of a ‘support person’ in accordance with the POCSO

Rules, 2020. They must:

  • Provide direct support to children in need of care and protection and their families.
  • Conduct home visits and identify psychosocial needs requiring immediate attention.
  • Work with the concerned stakeholders to help children receive interim and final victim compensation according to the government schemes.
  • Proactively liaison with government authorities, especially CWC members, District Child Protection Unit, Delhi State Legal Services Authority, police officials, and counsels.
  • Send regular updates to the CWC, as mandated.
  • Assist children and families for court hearings, attend court hearings and support clients through legal processes wherever required.
  • Work closely with panel lawyers on cases where iProbono India is providing legal
  • representation.
  • Assist child survivors at the police station and during medical procedures, wherever required.
  • Ensure compliance with the provisions of applicable laws and rules applicable to support persons, including provisions of the POCSO Act and Rules, Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 etc.
  • Further, the social worker must be thorough with social work methods for planning interventions to support the rehabilitation of children (alleged to be) in conflict with law. The status reports of such interventions will be submitted before the Juvenile Justice Board/Probation Officer.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the entire India Programs Team to ensure that all clients receive holistic, wraparound support.
  • Consistent, thorough and timely documentation of client case information in the case management system.
  • Participating in training and capacity building sessions for beneficiaries, panel lawyers, partner organizations etc., as required.
  • Working with partner NGOs, government agencies and field workers to provide support to clients in the Juvenile Justice/Criminal Justice verticals.

Skills and Experience 

  • (as per the guidelines of the Department of Women & Child Development, Delhi)
  • Master’s degree in social work with at least 1 year of relevant experience or a bachelor’s degree in social work with a minimum of three years’ experience in child education and development or child protection.
  • Individuals having experience of working in registered children’s homes or shelter homes responsible for the care and custody of children may also apply.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and the child protection system is essential.
  • Experience in providing psychosocial support, case management, child safeguarding, or rehabilitation services for children in vulnerable situations.
  • Strong interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to engage sensitively with children, families, government stakeholders, and partner organizations.
  • Ability to prepare case records, maintain confidentiality, and coordinate with District Child Protection Units, Special Courts, Child Welfare Committees, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English, Hindi, and/or the local language of the district is desirable.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including documentation, reporting, and use of Microsoft Office applications.
