What We Can Achieve:
To lead and support the Nature Conservancy’s efforts in India on sustainable water resource management, focusing on nature- based solutions, watershed protection, climate resilience, and collaboration with key stakeholders to achieve TNC’s conservation goals.
We are looking for:
Roles and responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership and Program Development:
- Develop and lead innovative water resource management initiatives aligned with TNC’s mission and global priorities.
- Collaborate with internal teams to integrate water management into broader conservation strategies, including biodiversity protection, climate adaptation, and community development.
- Shape and implement strategies that promote equitable and sustainable water use, ecosystem restoration, and watershed health.
2. Technical Expertise and Advisory:
- Provide technical guidance on watershed management, freshwater conservation, and restoration projects.
- Promote and implement nature-based solutions to address challenges such as drought, floods, and water scarcity.
- Support integrated water resource management (IWRM) approaches that balance environmental, economic, and social needs.
3. Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships:
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with governments, private sector stakeholders, community groups, and donors.
- Facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogues to advance freshwater conservation policies and practices.
- Represent TNC in global and regional forums to share knowledge, advocate for sustainable water management, and promote
TNC’s initiatives.
4. Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing:
- Develop and deliver training programs and capacity-building workshops for internal staff, partners, and community stakeholders.
- Promote awareness and understanding of freshwater conservation and nature-based solutions.
- Contribute to TNC’s global knowledge-sharing platforms through case studies, lessons learned, and innovative solutions.
5. Project Implementation and Monitoring:
- Design and implement water resource projects, including watershed conservation plans, water fund development, and ecosystem-based adaptation measures.
- Establish monitoring frameworks to assess the ecological and social impacts of water-related projects.
- Provide regular progress reports, including financial tracking and technical assessments.
6. Policy Advocacy and Fundraising:
- Support advocacy efforts for policies that promote water conservation, equitable water governance, and climate resilience.
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities from governments, multilateral organizations, and private sector partners to
support TNC’s water programs.
- Prepare proposals and donor reports that align with TNC’s conservation objectives.
Deliverables:
- Detailed freshwater management strategies and action plans aligned with TNC’s objectives.
- Partnership agreements and collaborative frameworks for water conservation initiatives.
- Regular technical and financial reports on project implementation and impacts.
- Training materials and capacity-building toolkits for stakeholders.
- Contributions to briefing notes, policy recommendations relating to program outcomes.
- Representing NCIS at regional/ global conferences and participating in TNC’s global events
What will you bring:
Minimum Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Water Resources Management, Hydrology, Environmental Science, with Water Resource Management as a specialization with a minimum of 10 years of experience.
- Collaboration with international organizations, government agencies, and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to lead and manage large-scale, multi-stakeholder conservation projects.
- Experience working with NGOs, government agencies, and private sector partners.
- Knowledge of nature-based solutions, watershed management, river restoration practices, hydrology etc. is required.
- Strong communication skills in English (both written and spoken).
- Experience in handling complex projects, including financial aspects and coordination with peers and partners.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in hydrological modelling, GIS, and watershed management tools.
- Familiarity with ecosystem-based adaptation and IWRM frameworks.
Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex ideas to diverse audiences.
- Commitment to TNC’s values, including diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum of 12-15 years of experience in freshwater conservation, water resource management in freshwater ecosystems, river restoration or related fields
- Team management experience with Strong network and connections.
- On-ground implementation expertise.
- Candidates have Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Strategic thinking and advanced analytical abilities.
