About the Organization
Founded by Ela Bhatt in 1972, the Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) works to empower poor women in India’s informal economy by equipping them with the personal confidence, community support, and practical tools necessary to fulfill their needs and exercise their rights. With over 3.2 million active members, SEWA is a nationwide movement and one of India’s largest and oldest nonprofit organizations. SEWA Bharat is a federation of women-led institutions providing economic and social support to women in the informal economy. SEWA Bharat is part of the national SEWA movement and was established in 1984. SEWA Bharat emerged out of the need to address the SEWA movement’s challenges with geographical expansion and coordination. SEWA Bharat is a family of SEWA organizations to further informal women workers’ rights, livelihoods, financial independence, education, health, and social security.
Job Description
The Program Coordinator will lead SEWA Rajasthan’s ongoing and future programs, manage funder and partner relationships, and oversee field teams. This role requires a balance of strategic planning, program delivery, grassroots engagement, and partnership management to ensure SEWA’s mission of empowering informal women workers is sustained and expanded in Rajasthan. The position particularly calls for someone with strong experience in thematic areas such as youth engagement, livelihoods promotion, education, and social empowerment, with the ability to integrate these across programs to achieve long-term impact.
Job Responsibilities
Program Management & Strategy
- Lead planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs in Jaipur and future expansion districts.
- Ensure smooth delivery of entitlement-focused interventions, livelihood strengthening, and awareness building campaigns.
- Translate SEWA Bharat’s national strategies into state-level action plans aligned with community needs.
- Monitor progress against indicators, ensure documentation of outcomes, and produce high-quality reports.
Partnerships & Fundraising
- Manage donor relations, including proposal development, funder reporting, and compliance.
- Identify and build partnerships with government departments, civil society organizations, and academic institutions.
- Represent SEWA Rajasthan in relevant forums, networks, and policy dialogues.
Community Engagement & Leadership Development
- ● Strengthen grassroots institutions such as SHGs, youth groups, and worker collectives.
- ● Facilitate public hearings (Jan Sunwais), campaigns, and workshops to promote rights and entitlements.
- ● Mentor and build leadership capacities among women workers to take ownership of local initiatives.
Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and manage the state team to ensure accountability and professional growth.
- Foster a collaborative, field-focused culture grounded in SEWA’s values of self-reliance, dignity, and collective strength.
- Oversee recruitment and training of field staff as programs expand.
Awareness Building & Policy Engagement
- Identify systemic gaps in access to rights, entitlements, and livelihoods for informal women workers.
- Design and execute awareness building campaigns with strong evidence-building from the field.
- Build constructive engagement with local government bodies to improve last-mile delivery.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Public Policy, Development Studies, or related fields.
- The position particularly calls for someone with strong experience in thematic areas such as
- youth engagement, livelihoods promotion, education, and social empowerment, with the ability
- to integrate these across programs to achieve long-term impact.
- 7–8 years of experience in the development sector with proven expertise in:
- Program management (multi-stakeholder, multi-theme projects).
- Managing donor partnerships, reporting, and compliance.
- Working directly with communities, preferably women workers in the informal sector.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with government, funders, and partners at multiple levels.
- Willingness to travel extensively within Rajasthan, including rural and semi-urban field sites.
