Job purpose

The Journalism Master Trainers will be responsible for delivering capacity strengthening activities for media practitioners in the four project hubs of Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. While one master trainer will be responsible for implementing activities in Delhi and Mumbai, the second master trainer will be responsible for activities in Bangalore and Chennai. They will work with a senior BBC journalist to design a training toolkit for journalists, journalism students, content creators and community radio station members, and subsequently lead on delivering workshops and learning labs using the toolkit.

Duration : 

  • 5-10 days a month for up to 8 months for each position

Language requirement : 

  • Proficiency in English, Hindi and relevant local language

Main duties & responsibilities:

  • Work with a senior BBC journalist to produce a comprehensive training toolkit on verification and fact-checking practices for media practitioners, drawing from project research and BBC Media Action’s global resources.
  • Based on the toolkit, deliver interactive and engaging workshops and learning labs for journalists, journalism students, content creators and community radio station members across
  • Ensure effective participation of practitioners in the learning sessions, guiding them to apply tools and methodologies in their newsrooms or content production.
  • Incorporate and adhere to BBC editorial standards and guidelines in all training and learning activities.
  • Embed safeguarding issues in training materials and report any safeguarding concerns or risks immediately to the Head of Project or Country Director.
  • The person may also be required to take on such other duties and responsibilities as the Head of Project might request.

Ideal candidate should have:

  • Minimum five years’ experience in journalism, with a focus on fact-checking or verification of digital content.
  • Proven track record of designing and delivering training modules, workshops or learning labs for media professionals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to form and maintain effective working relationships at all levels.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills to deliver work independently and to a high quality standard.
  • Graduate or post-graduate degree in social sciences, journalism, communication or related fields.
