Job Description

The Plastic Circularity and Innovation Lead will play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing strategies to transform plastic waste management practices towards a circular economy model. S/he will support delivery of the program, with core responsibility for designing and delivering key objectives including:

  • Increased circularity through P-3 (People, Private and Public)
  • Accelerated climate-friendly innovations (esp. re-designing packaging).

S/he will be based at the Headquarters (New Delhi) and will act as a lead for the aspect of Plastic Circularity and Innovation within the inREPLACE Program. S/he will dedicatedly lead one of the 8 interventions of the program – inREPLACE Circularity Hub, which endeavors to furnish innovation, financing, collaboration, and market access throughout the plastic value chain, grounded in principles of blended finance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the structuring, planning, design, and implementation of key financial components under the broader objective of ‘address lifecycle impact of plastics by promoting a circular economy and an innovation eco-system’.
  • Lead the structuring and operationalization of inREPLACE Circularity Hub, covering comprehensive aspects such as life-cycle assessment of innovators, technical & financial due-diligence, feasibility assessments & impact assessment.
  • Lead engagement with banks, philanthropic institutions, venture capitalists to structure and channel finance to innovators through inREPLACE Circularity hub.
  • Propose & devise investment strategies, fund convergence and deployment in line with principles of blended finance.
  • Assess different financial instruments, lead sub-project development and allocation through specific instruments as per donor & recipient needs.
  • Conduct financial due-diligence, balance-sheet assessment, audit of recommended innovators/start-ups in plastic space.
  • Support & closely coordinate with other team members through key recommendations towards financial & technical resource allocation, based on life cycle and feasibility assessments of business models around plastics circular economy.
  • Evaluate and recommend financial resource allocation to innovators, based on technical due-diligence and potential impact, in line with inREPLACE objectives.
  • Ensure key technical, economic, financial, institutional, and crosscutting issues are incorporated into recommended business models to enhance sustainability and impact.
  • Support monitoring & evaluation, post-award assessment of supported innovators, as well as knowledge management, ensuring effective tracking of progress and potential impact.
  • Oversee the internal management of the activity, including coordination for technical inputs from all activity partners, work planning, deliverable management, reporting and ensuring uniform implementation of the detailed implementation plan.
  • Coordinate with sub-awardees, other partners to ensure alignment of contributions towards hub objectives.
  • Maintain close relationship with client institutions – USAID, MoEFCC, MoHUA – to ensure alignment with strategic goals and priorities.
  • Manage a multi-disciplinary team, working across project locations, and coordinate inputs to ensure effective project implementation.
  • Ensure active communication across project teams, reporting on various schedules, and maintaining strong relationships with project partners.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • MBA / CA / CFA/ Master’s Degree in Financial Management or related disciplines.

Experience Requirements:

  • At least 15 years’ experience in areas of fund management, fund-raising, financial systems.
  • Knowledge of financial regulations, banking systems and financial instruments around blended finance.
  • Experience of working with/around innovations, climate-resilient business models.
  • Familiarity with financial instruments/aspects, start-up and innovation ecosystem around plastics.
  • Strong network with private sector, philanthropic institutions, donors, CSR’s, banks.
  • Knowledge & experience of conducting life-cycle assessment and business model evaluation.
  • Strong research background of new and upcoming models of circular economy.
