Job Description
As a Research and Implementation Specialist, you will conduct extensive field research to develop an in-depth understanding of neonatal health care provision (specifically relating to KMC) through government systems in Dungarpur, and Rajasthan more broadly. In particular, you will focus on KMC provision for low birth weight infants in government District Hospitals, lower level facilities and the community, and early initiation of skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding in the first hour post-birth in District Hospitals and lower level facilities.
You will map existing processes, identify issues preventing the effective delivery of KMC and help the Ansh leadership team evaluate potential solutions to improve delivery through government systems in Rajasthan. To test potential solutions, you will run small-scale experiments, in particular helping to design, set up and evaluate implementation models. You will also support the management of Ansh’s KMC programs in Dungarpur and other District Hospitals in southern Rajasthan.

Field research
- Plan field research to quickly and effectively develop an in-depth understanding of government neonatal health care provision (specifically relating to KMC).
- Conduct extensive field research in the district of Dungarpur, including in government hospitals and lower level facilities.
- Observe the ICMR district-wide scaling of interventions in Dungarpur from October, identifying key successes, challenges and areas for improvement.
- Share regular research updates, including short daily summaries.
- Adapt fieldwork plans and coordinate logistics to respond to changes in priorities.
- Prepare interview guides and conduct interviews with healthcare staff to understand their perspectives on neonatal care processes and KMC.
- Shadow community health workers (ANMs and ASHAs) to observe their work and assess community-based neonatal healthcare provision.
- Travel to other areas of India (largely within Rajasthan) to conduct fieldwork and observe relevant interventions.
Strategic thinking & solution design
- Map out existing processes, identifying key issues and barriers to KMC provision and early initiation.
- Identify feasible and scalable potential solutions for improving KMC provision and early initiation. through government systems.
- Identify cost-effective potential solutions for improving KMC provision and early initiation through Ansh’s direct work.
- Clearly communicate insights and ideas to the Ansh leadership team.
- Proactively explore innovative ways to drive improvement.
- Support the design of effective implementation strategies suited to local contexts.
Experimentation
- Design fast, low-cost experiments to test potential solutions to improve KMC delivery and early initiation.
- Support the set up and management of experiments, including managing the logistics, stakeholder interactions and acquisition of the required material.
- Liaise with external stakeholders including hospital staff, ICMR and government stakeholders as required to ensure the smooth running of research and experiments.
- Plan and ensure robust data collection, verifying its accuracy.
- Evaluate experiment outcomes and support solution iteration.
Program management
- Coordinate research efforts with the remote research team, informing them of emerging findings and questions.
- Attend regular meetings with the full Ansh ICMR project team to share updates and align on latest thinking and priorities.
- Support the management of the core Ansh program at Dungarpur and possibly other District Hospitals in the South of Rajasthan.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- At least 2 years of field research experience, including conducting in-person observations and interviews.
- Healthcare background, ideally in maternal & neonatal health.
- Execution: Can independently conduct research and manage projects.
- Communication: Can communicate complex ideas with nuance and persuasiveness, both verbally and in writing, adjusting tone for the audience.
- Proactive problem solving: Takes the initiative to identify and solve problems.
- Strategic thinking: Can synthesise and analyse research findings to identify issues and come up with creative solutions.
- Attention to detail: Ability to conduct thorough research and provide highly detailed reports of findings
- Relationship building: Personable and skilled at developing good working relationships with a wide range of people (e.g., nurses, hospital leadership).
- Languages: Fluency in English and Hindi.
- Logistics: Based in Dungarpur or Udaipur (or willing to relocate there), and willing to travel extensively within Rajasthan.
Desired Experience & Skills
- Experience conducting field research in healthcare settings in India.
- Project management experience.
- KMC background.
- Experience running pilots or experiments to test implementation models.

₹75,000-₹1,00,000 per month
